Midwife owners Cathy Rude, Natalie Wommack and Connie Blokkum began working together doing homebirths in 2003. After 7 years of hard work and the support of their spouses and families, their vision of owning a freestanding birth center became a reality.
In October 2010, the renovated 1939 house in Historic Old Katy was purchased as the soon-to-be site of Katy Birth Center. In December of that same year, Katy Birth Center received their licensure and finalized the preparations to open the doors as a fully functional freestanding birth center.
In January 2011 KBC became completely operational, ready to begin their journey of guiding expectant parents in the miracle of bringing a new life into their families. A great way to start the year, the midwives then began caring for clients and performing deliveries at the birth center.
Today the center and its midwives have welcomed over 2000 healthy infants into the world, and into their parents loving arms. Their journey continues with each new client, new family, new little one; a joy and miracle, a dream come true.
Statement of Philosophy
We believe:
- Childbirth is a normal, natural event that is ordained by God and when supported in the most natural way, without unnecessary interventions, will proceed in an uncomplicated delivery of a healthy baby in most cases.
- Preventative healthcare and conscientious prenatal care are the best ways to avoid complications.
- The midwife’s role is to assist the birthing couple in a journey through pregnancy, labor/birth, and the postpartum, and newborn period by monitoring the complete process.
- Childbirth is a family centered event and the parents should have the experiences they desire. We encourage specific requests regarding the birth experience, and try to honor the expectant parents’ requests concerning the birth itself.
