My journey to midwifery was a long road. I began my journey as a LVN in 1999 in a rural hospital setting working medical surgical, ICU, & ER. After 3 short months of working, I was ready to resign from nursing as I did not feel it was my calling. A friend reached out to me about a position in a hospital-based birth center. I accepted that position as a postpartum/nursery nurse. I quickly learned that I had a desire to be a labor & delivery nurse however that is when the shift to RN only in L&D began so I had to return to school to get my RN license. I received my ADN in 2002 from WCJC and pursued my BSN from Texas Tech and completed that in 2005. At this point I knew I wanted to be a midwife but there were no face-to-face classes offered and with being a single mother of 4 I knew there was no way to do online courses and be successful. So, I returned to school and received my MSN as a Womenâs Health Nurse Practitioner from UT, HSC, SON in Houston. I enjoyed taking care of, educating, and serving OB patients but with 17 years of L&D experience I missed birthing babies and did not like having to hand my clients over to the physicians to deliver them for me. I wanted my clients to receive complete care from me. In June of 2020 I began to look into what it would take to get my postmasters. I began working with Texas Tech to find I only needed 3 classes and clinical hours to achieve this. With my experience they encouraged me to immediately apply for entrance into the program and I began the program that August by the grace of God. I received my CNM in 12/2021 and have been blessed with the opportunity to join Katy Birth Center in 4/2022.
I am a proud mom of 8 currently, ages 18-28. I was blessed to birth 4 children unmedicated in the hospital with my last pregnancy being twins with vertex/breech presentation and being an advocate for myself delivered the breech vaginally feet first. I was blessed to adopt twin boys at the age of 9 and have continued to help co-parent my previous 2 step children who are a big part of my life, one of which has given me my first beautiful granddaughter. I am currently engaged to Herbie who is my best friend and is giving me two more children ages 9 & 20 to help co parent.
In my spare time I love to spend time with my family, taking outdoor walks, country dancing, & traveling (especially cruising). I eventually would like to own horses again as I was a single mom and working, I had to put that on the back burner. I have been a volunteer on the Medical Safety Committee with HLSR since 2010.
